Use of Clay
Many Uses of clay
The action of clay is mostly due to its dual property of adsorption and absorption that are expressed at different degrees in different clays. Absorption is the passive physical capacity of a porous body to be filled with liquids or gases, like a sponge. Adsorption allows the retention, at the surface of a solid, of organic or inorganic molecules in solution or in suspension, like a sticky paper. The balance between the absorption and adsorption capacities varies among clays, thus each type of clay is adapted to specific utilization. For example, Montmorillonite clay has long been known for being the ideal clay for internal consumption because of its potent detoxification action, while Illite clay is rich in minerals and microelements and can be used as a mineral supplement. Our modern type of life exposes us, both internally and externally, to thousands of pollutants and toxins that slowly accumulate into our bodies. The regular practice of cleansing/detoxifying cures several times a year helps our bodies to maintain a healthy life balance. Clay is the natural remedy of excellence for such cures.

Thus, Clay cleanses impurities by two ways: each clay particle acts like a sponge and/or like a sticky paper. However, it appears that clay is able to discriminate between what is healthy and good and what is bad and sick in a living organism. This might be due to specific physic-chemical properties of toxins and microbes like bacteria and viruses. Therefore, clay absorbs and adsorbs only what needs to be removed from an organ, a tissue, a cell. In addition to this potent cleansing/detoxifying action, other specific properties make clay an exquisite natural remedy with a very broad spectrum of action.

Internal use
Preferably sun dried, fine or superfine clay may be used internally thanks to its consistency, composition and cleanliness. Montmorillonite is the clay of election for internal use because it has a specific molecular structure which allows an extremely high adsorption as well as absorption capacity. By acting as a strong detoxifying agent, green clay removes whatever hinders the healthy biological processes in the body. In parallel, Clay also protects the gastro-intestinal tissues, can neutralize acid or alkaline excess and heal a food poisoning crisis, regulates bowel movement.
Clay has been used for centuries for:

• Detoxification
• Heartburn, stomachache, gastritis, stomach ulcer, flatulence, colitis, functional colopathy, food poisoning, abdominal bloating, diarrhea.
• Gingivitis, bad breath, stomatitis, dental abscess, mouth ulcer.
• Colds, rhinitis, pharyngitis, sinusitis, laryngitis, bronchitis.
• Acidosis, hepatic dysfunction, intoxication, parasitosis.
• Clay like Illite is ultra rich in minerals and trace elements and can be used as a mineral supplement in combination with plants extracts or herbal teas. Minerals present in clay include: aluminum, calcium, chromium, copper, iron, germanium, magnesium, manganese, phosphor, potassium, sulfur, selenium, silica, silicon and zinc.

Directions for internal use
Clay is a natural healer and acts softly on the body. However it is wise to gently start internal use of clay with Clay Water. Clay Water is prepared by adding one teaspoon of clay into a glass of water, steering it well and leaving for a few hours for clay to deposit at the bottom of the glass. The water will have fine elements of clay suspended with large elements at the bottom. Carefully drink the water only. After a week or two of drinking Clay Water, the whole glass of water and clay can be drunk as the body is used to clay.

One glass of Clay Water in the morning is sufficient. After about 6 weeks of drinking clay one can make a few week break and resume. Six weeks cures are particularly recommended in spring and autumn. When doing a clay cure, it is very important to drink enough water (more than usually).

If clay is used to treat some conditions more aggressive clay consumption is required. In most cases 2 glasses of water with clay will suffice. In severe cases (i.e. food poisoning), more concentrated solutions of clay may be required every 2 hours, until amelioration of the symptoms.

External use
Clay can also be used externally with great success on many different symptoms, thanks to specific properties. Indeed, clay has been shown to have an antiseptic action, while respecting the tissue on which it is applied, a cicatrizing action by stimulating the cellular regeneration and protecting the scar, an hemostatic action, a cleaning effect and a sedative and relaxing action.

• Clay has been used with great success in dermatology for symptoms like: acne, scar, wound, bite, sting, burn, abscess, boil, psoriasis, athlete feet, mycosis, eczema and other dermatitis.
• It is also a precious help in case of fractures, articular pain (arthritis, arthrosis), back pains of diverse origins, sprains, tendinitis, cramps.
• Clay has been utilized in cosmetics for millennia. By purifying the skin and the underlying tissues, it helps it to stay healthy and radiant. As part of masks, shampoos, soaps, body-wraps, baths, toothpaste, by itself or, even better, in combination with plant extracts, elixirs or essential oils, clay will bring the beauty from the source, from inside.

Directions for external use
Externally, clay may be used as part of powder, poultices, masks, baths, mouthwash, nose showers, wraps, shampoos and soaps. Poultices are made by adding a small amount of water to a bowl of clay, letting this mix rest until complete absorption of the water by the clay, preferably under the sunlight. The poultices should cover the area to treat with a 3/4 inch thick layer, wrapped with a cotton cloth and be left on for at least one hour. Poultices may be kept for a few days if in a hermetic container. Never reuse any clay.

Precautions:
- no direct side effects
- should not be combined with medicaments
- should not be taken internally in case of pregnancy and breast-feeding, hernia, history of intestinal occlusion, very fat diet, chronic constipation and high blood pressure.

Household use
Clay can be used as an effective deodorant in any places where there is a tendency for unpleasant odors like in refrigerators, under sink areas, closets, wet basements or else.

Animal treatment.
Clay should be used on animals for the same indications as in humans.
