March 2006 Greetings! Skincare Treatments that really work. Honestly. Tasha Norman Part 2
- How to get your body and face ready for Spring. Most asked Question: What skincare service will give you immediate results without spending a fortune and can be maintained at home. Answer: Microdermabrasion (i.e. specialized exfoliation treatment)
With all the hype about Microdermabrasion treatments I had to try it for myself to see if it really works. I scheduled 1 treatment a week for 4 weeks at Le Cachet Day Spa in Manhattan. 39 E. 30th St. (Park and Madison Avenue)212-448-9823.
IMPORTANT TO KNOW the difference between the commonly used Microdermabrasion Crystals and the Microdermabrasion Crystals Le Cachet Holistic Day Spa use, is that Le Cachet Day Spa uses Magnesium Oxide Crystals verses others in the Industry who uses Aluminum Oxide Crystals. The difference is, that Aluminum oxide might leave some toxin residues, while Magnesium Oxide Crystals are based on Magnesium, which is a form of a vitamin supplement. Magnesium also help to light up dark, pigmentation spots, especially beneficial for dark or black skin.
Microdermabrasion can be performed on the entire body back and front and especially good for dark skin. It prevents acne by allowing the skin to breath and limits the oil content of the skin, which the # 1 cause of acne.
After each Microdermabrasion treatment my skin was very smooth and very soft. What is also true about Microdermabrasion is the process does feel like your face was being sandpapered. This exfoliation process uses crystal powder and takes getting used to. The #1 fear with Microdermabrasion is that you think your skin is too sensitive for this procedure. The solution is to go to a spa that you trust. When Microdermabrasion is done properly, there is no pain, just minor discomfort, which is less painful then traditional blackhead extractions. At Le Cachet Day Spa , they can regulate the power of the supply of the crystals during treatments by reducing the pressure of the crystal particles. Only a skilled and experienced professional will be able to vary the pressure to accommodate your skins sensitivity.
Tasha’s Recommendation: I would recommend getting the Microdermabrasion treatment once a week at least 1 month before a big event. Or once a month for maintenance and to keep lasting results. If the service is too pricey to sustain for over a month, have a couple of professional procedures then purchase the Le Cachet Microdermabrasion professional crystal cream treatment (comes in a jar) for home use. And, use gently as an every- other-day facial scrub resulting in a real mini facial result.
PS. I have been getting facials since I was a teenager and very savvy when it comes to facial treatments. The rule of thumb was you'll look great 3 days after your facial. Not anymore. With my experiences with the “Perfector” (January 2006 Tendu On the Radar Newsletter) and Le Cachet's Microdermabrasion treatments (this issue). I can comfortably confirm that these 2 treatments are all that is necessary to get and maintain great skin immediately. Both treatments are very different and depending on what your comfort level is you will not go wrong with either. Results will vary.
