What is Acupuncture? Acupuncture is an over 3000 years old ancient science. Acupuncture is a way of treating health issues with the insertion of very fine and thin needles in to the body at various locations. The needles in use are brand new, sterile and disposed after each client’s treatment. Sometimes the acupuncturist will manually manipulate the needles to bring about stimulation to the specific area of the body. Other times the acupuncturist will use an electrical stimulation equipment to assist in the treatment.(This method of treatment for those patients who are afraid of needles)
How Does Acupuncture Work? Acupuncture works by balancing the vital life energy, called the ch’i or qi , of the body. This energy flows through the body along pathways called meridians. According to biochemical and neurological research, acupuncture works by releasing natural pain-relieving substances (chemicals produced by the body immune system) in the central nervous system.
Are There Any Side –Effects? Acupuncture should not cause any side effects especially if it is preformed by a licensed therapist. It is a very safe method to treat a variety of health issues.
What to expect from a Treatment? After the insertion of the needles, the patient should feel very relaxed and comfy . There may be a slight sensation of numbness, soreness, heaviness, or distention around the area of the needle insertion. However it is very common that a large population of patients will not even feel the needle insertions.
How Many Treatments are Necessary? Since each person is unique, their treatment plan will be individualized, depending upon the type, the duration, and the severity of the condition: and also the relative health of the client.
